Discovery Bay

“Welcome to Discovery Bay! Explore oceans, space and animals.”

About this land

Discovery Bay is the world around us: sea creatures and colours, the eight planets, animal habitats, traffic lights and road signs, feelings and kindness, memory and shapes.

Every game here has ten levels, and the narrator shares a short fact as your child plays — why Mars is the red planet, what “angry” feels like, how many sides a hexagon has.

Ocean Dive

“Dive deep and catch the fish!”

10 levelsAges 3–7Free on iOS

How to play

Fish swim past a submarine and your child taps the right ones, which swirl into the bucket. Rounds ask for a colour, an exact number of one colour, the big or small fish, size and colour together, or “How many fish are pink?” answered with a number.

What it teaches

Colours, big and small, stopping at an exact number, counting a group, and matching two features at once.

Winning and stars

Two wins per level. The brown puffer fish puffs up when tapped and never counts as a mistake.

The 10 levels

  1. Sunny lagoon: catch a colour (2 fish)
  2. Sunny lagoon: catch a colour (3)
  3. Coral reef: catch exactly 2–3
  4. Big and small
  5. How many? (1–4)
  6. Shipwreck: size and colour
  7. Shipwreck: catch 4–5, and how many?
  8. Night sea, glowing fish: colour and count
  9. Night sea: how many (2–6)
  10. Treasure reef: everything

Tips for grown-ups

  • In “catch N” rounds there is always one extra fish of that colour — practise stopping at the number.

Space Trip

“Blast off to the planets!”

10 levelsAges 3–7Free on iOS

How to play

A rocket carrying your explorer flies to whichever planet your child taps. Rounds include visiting planets, finding a named planet, dragging planets into order from the Sun, moon shapes, a quiz and a three-stop rocket trip.

What it teaches

The eight planets, their order from the Sun, one fact about each (Mercury is closest to the Sun, Venus is hottest, Mars is the red planet, Jupiter is biggest, Saturn has rings…) and moon phases.

Winning and stars

Two wins per level. Explore rounds always give three stars; the others count mistakes.

The 10 levels

  1. Explore the inner planets
  2. Explore the outer planets
  3. Find one of 3 planets

Animal Homes

“Help the animals find their homes!”

10 levelsAges 3–7iOS: in the unlock

How to play

Two to four scenery panels sit side by side — farm, jungle, savanna, ocean and ice, forest. Animals (or foods) arrive one at a time in a hot-air balloon and your child drags each to the right panel.

What it teaches

Habitats, swimmers and walkers, big and small, and what animals eat. Each habitat is introduced aloud (“The jungle! It is hot and full of trees.”) and animals make their sounds.

Winning and stars

Two wins per level; three stars with no mistakes.

The 10 levels

  1. 2 homes, 4 animals
  2. 2 wilder homes, 5 animals
  3. 3 homes, 5
  4. 3 homes, 6

  7. 4 homes, 6
  8. Big or small?
  9. Feeding time, 4 animals
  10. Animal parade: 4 homes, 8 animals

Tips for grown-ups

  • Ask “Where does it live?” before your child drags.
  • Talk about why ducks and hippos are both swimmers.

Traffic Town

“Drive safely around town!”

10 levelsAges 3–7iOS: in the unlock

How to play

A top-down town with roads, crossings and parking spaces. Your child taps cars to go on green, parks cars in matching spaces, counts waiting cars, helps the explorer cross on the green man, steers along a winding road, lines cars up in order and places road signs.

What it teaches

Traffic lights, crossing safely (“Look left, look right… and walk!”), road signs (stop, crossing, parking, school), colour and number matching, counting and number order.

Winning and stars

Two wins per level. Tapping a car on red counts as a mistake — a gentle way to practise waiting.

The 10 levels

  1. Traffic light
  2. Park by colour
  3. Park by number
  4. Count the waiting cars (2–5)
  5. Safe crossing with the green man

Feelings Friends

“How do our friends feel?”

10 levelsAges 3–7iOS: in the unlock

How to play

Round shape characters show feelings on their faces. Your child picks the face that shows a feeling, matches faces to picture cards, hears short stories (a lost balloon, a surprise present) and picks how the friend feels, builds faces, finds twins, chooses a kind action and sorts happy and sad faces.

What it teaches

Naming emotions — happy, sad, angry, scared and surprised, then sleepy, silly and proud — and kindness. Each feeling is explained simply: “Angry means you feel cross and grumpy. A big breath helps!”

Winning and stars

Two wins per level; three stars with no mistakes.

The 10 levels

  1. Find the happy face
  2. Find the feeling (3 faces)
  3. Face and picture card
  4. Story moments
  5. Build a face
  6. Two who feel the same
  7. What helps? (hug, share, play…)
  8. Feelings memory
  9. Happy or sad baskets
  10. Mix

Tips for grown-ups

  • Copy the faces in a mirror together.
  • Afterwards, ask “When did you feel like that?”

Memory Match

“Find the matching pairs!”

10 levelsAges 3–7iOS: in the unlock

How to play

Flip cards two at a time to find matching pairs. On levels 1–4 the cards are shown face-up first (“Remember them!”) and then turned over.

What it teaches

Memory and matching: identical animals, animal and shadow, number and dots, colour and object, letter and picture, and animal and sound (the sound card speaks).

Winning and stars

Stars count moves rather than mistakes: three for finishing in at most one move more than the number of pairs. Two wins move up a level (one three-star win is enough on levels 1–2).

The 10 levels

  1. 2×2 animals
  2. 3×2 animals
  3. 3×2 shadows
  4. 4×2 numbers
  5. 4×2 colours
  6. 4×3 animals
  7. 4×3 letters
  8. 4×3 shadows
  9. 4×3 sounds
  10. 5×4 grand mix

Tips for grown-ups

  • Say each card’s name aloud when it flips — naming helps memory.

DISCOVERY BAY · 07

Shape Friends

“Match the shape friends!”

10 levelsAges 3–7iOS: in the unlock

How to play

Each shape is a character with a face and hands. Rounds include dragging shapes onto their shadows, “Find the hexagon!”, building a picture from shapes, picking the shape with a given number of corners and sorting shapes into hoops.

What it teaches

2D shapes (circle to hexagon), sides and corners, telling look-alikes apart, sorting by shape or colour, and 3D solids (cube, sphere, cylinder, cone).

Winning and stars

Two wins per level. Spoken facts along the way: “A hexagon has 6 sides, just like a honeycomb.”

The 10 levels

  1. Circle, square, triangle
  2. Star and heart
  3. Build pictures: house, ice cream, tree
  4. Rectangle, oval, diamond
  5. Turned shadows
  6. Look-alikes: pentagon and hexagon
  7. Bigger pictures: snowman, rocket…
  8. Count the corners
  9. Sorting
  10. 3D solids

Tips for grown-ups

  • Go on a shape hunt at home — plates, doors, dice.
  • Count corners with a finger before answering on level 8.
